Joan Flynn is an advocate, a TV show host, and a force for good. A county commissioner for 16 years and a mother of 7, Joan knows how to lead. With her beaming positivity and commitment to others, Joan Flynn is Senior Strong.
Joan Flynn has never stopped. After raising a family she went back college, finished her degree, and entered the workforce. Motivated by the desire to improve her community, she ran and was elected county commissioner for 16 years. Now she hosts a TV show, Life is Good in Warren, where she highlights what seniors are doing within and around the city.
In addition to her TV show, Joan is the mayor-appointed Community Outreach Coordinator for the City of Warren. She connects individuals with the special services they need. Sometimes people can’t get help from the county or the state, that’s when Joan comes in. She knows the best churches and nonprofits to help each person. Whether they need shelter, or an air conditioner, Joan knows where to go.
Joan glows with positivity. Her motto is to, “always look at the good side of life.” And her sunny disposition is infectious. After 5 minutes with Joan Flynn, you feel that life will be great if you keep the right attitude. However, she also knows things could be better for her fellow seniors. She cites prescription drug costs and the future of social security as two of the biggest problems facing her community. But, Joan is committed to voicing the concerns of her fellow seniors and hopeful for the future.
Joan Flynn at age 84 is a shining example of what it means to be Senior Strong. Finding new ways to make a positive impact, facing challenges head on, and keeping a positive attitude about it all. She is a model to her community as well as Michigan. We are inspired by her energy and her commitment to the greater good.
